The Frozen Throne

Northrend is the frozen continent found at the roof of the world of Azeroth. The Lich King himself sits at his Frozen Throne on Icecrown Glacier.

Northrend will have zones of a comparable size to those in outland, it will also have more zones, but the exact number has not been finalised yet. Players can start from two different zones: Howling Fjord & Borean Tundra.

The other two continents of the Azeroth world are Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. There is also another world linked to Azeroth through the Dark Portal, opened by the Lich King and re-opened by Medivh. This is the shattered world of Draenor, now called Outland.

The Lich King Arthas has set in motion events that could lead to the extinction of all life on Azeroth. With the armies of the undead and the necromantic power of the plague threatening to sweep across the land, only the mightiest heroes can oppose the Lich King's will and end his reign of terror for all time.

For millennia the Great Dragonblight has served as the enduring heart of Northrend.

Here dense forests surround a vast arctic wasteland littered with the massive, gleaming bones of perished dragons. In the center of this frozen expanse lies Wyrmrest Temple, a structure believed to be built by the world-shaping titans shortly after they reshaped Azeroth. Many legends hold that the five great Dragon Aspects were blessed here within the Chamber of the Aspects and given their charge to watch over the budding world. Perhaps it is for this reason that dragons nearing the end of their lives come to the Dragonblight to enrich the land with their passing.

Dalaran - Capital City

• The Kirin Tor, led by Rhonin, have moved Dalaran to Northrend as a final front in their war against the Blue Dragon Flight.
• The Blue Dragon Flight, following a strengthened Malygos, are now attempting to purge all magic users from Azeroth.
• It will act as the central neutral city floating above Northrend - a Shattrath of the North.

Races of Northrend

• Taunka – An ancient offshoot of the Tauren, who have a considerably different outlook on the world.
• Tuskarr – The Nomadic Fisher Walrus men make a return from Warcraft III.
• Iron Dwarves – There is a great deal to be discovered about the history of Azeroth through their story.
• Naga – Pursuing their material interests further in Northrend.
• Vrykul – The ancient giant vikings of the Howling Fjord.
• Furbolgs – The Furbolgs live in the city of Grizzlemaw in Grizzly Hills.
• Nerubians – The Nerubian spiderlords are related to the silithid of Silithus and are followers of the Old Gods in Northrend.
